Is West Side Story too mature for a 10 year old? My 2 nieces come from a pretty strict household (Def. nothing R rated),.Which of these plays would you recommend for girls, 10 %26amp;14 y/o? Billy Elliot, West Side Story, Mary Poppins?
Billy Elliot is an AMAZING SHOW. West Side Story is something completely different, and, to answer your question, yes, I think you should wait on it. Wait until they have seen Romeo and Juliet, and then they'll be better able to appreciate the story, and what it means on a deeper level than the violence and grit. I'm all for Billy Elliot for them. It's about halfway between Mary Poppins and WSS, so good choice! Classic coming-of-age combined with a gender iconoclast and challenging thought for a fourteen y/o, while still being entertaining! Billy Elliot ALL THE WAY.
I wouldn't go for West Side Story as it's a little too mature, I would think. Billy Elliot is one of the most brilliant shows I have ever seen, but there is a fair amount of swearing in it. I saw Mary Poppins in my mid-20s and couldn't stop smiling for a week - it's brilliant, I'd recommend it completely. So much fun, songs which are probably familiar and wonderful choreography.Which of these plays would you recommend for girls, 10 %26amp;14 y/o? Billy Elliot, West Side Story, Mary Poppins?
Mary Poppins.
I would take them to see Mary Poppins. My friend saw it recently, and shes my age (almost 15) and she loved it.
Hope I helped! :)
