What do the Southern English think of the Northern English?

I was reading about Scottish independence and there was some "Southerner" saying he'd like to see Scotland, Wales and NI go and take Northern England with them, he reckoned people in the North were "a load of whinging ex-coal miners".

Is this really what Southerners think of the Northerners, or is this guy just an uneducated idiot who got his views from coronation street and billy elliot? What do the Southern English think of the Northern English?
least us Northerns can still smile when we see each other
im not english just immigrant living in london for the last 12 years. the thing i hate most about london and southern england is that over here everyone has step dad or step mum or single parents and thats what i hate mostly about southern england. this is funny thing cos northern england is just 5 min from london thats not far but it feel like between south and north is like 2000miles :). i never been nowhere near north scotland or NI. ones i wanted to move over there people told me that in nort of england i will find better life quality more frindly people normal famillies. whatever u are people over there if ur different then people in the south ii like uWhat do the Southern English think of the Northern English?
Yes my friend, this is more or less the case. People in the South East of England think the world revolves around them %26amp; they are propping up everyone else. Personally speaking the people i've met from Northern England are more genuine %26amp; not so full of it as Londoners for example. If Scotland did get independence you'd be welcome to come with us. We've got more in common with each other than we do with those in the South anyway.
People's opinions on ANY subject vary from one extreme to the other, if they are not based on factual info; human nature! So take any rantings from a few individuals with a pinch of salt. No doubt a few will crawl out of the woodwork, to answer your question. You find this occurring not just North v. South, but also country to country, region to region, city to city, east side to west side; and this does not even include racial predudice issues.
I know it sounds bad but really it's all done "tongue in cheek". I have friends from all over the UK and I love them all. We may have different habits and customs but we're basically all the same and get on well. There's good and bad in all people and it seems it's human nature to have a go at someone.
Sadly I think there is a strong representation for his views in the south, but I'm sure it's reciprocated by a similar inteligensa in the North who regard the south as "southern softies".
As a southerner, I think the people of Northern England are great, have worked up there for many years and have always found them a great people. As far as Scotland goes, I'd challenge anyone to find any anti Scottish graffiti in England.
We don't know anything about the Northerners apart from they work in factories and on farms. I have heard that they live in houses where the toilet is outside and the men get drunk every night and hit their wife's a lot.
It's the same as the rest of the country. We're all the same, but I'm sure, just like we have jokes about the Northerners, they have jokes about us.
It is all just banter and friendly rivalry.

When we as a country are in trouble any rivalry is forgotten and we all unite.
I am a Northerner (Yorkshire) married to a Southerner (Sussex). We make jokes about the North and South but it's just in fun.
Just banter mostly.
keep them out I say " northerners %26amp; Scots "...............
Us southerners laugh at them, we all think they are well rough and common and they don't speak properly! I'm sure they'd poke a few jibes at us too! :)
JS u creep lol
