Any suggestions?
Thank you!A book like "Billy Elliot" Story?
The absolute undisputed classic as regards ballet stories is Noel Streatfield's 'Ballet Shoes' about three adopted sisters who turn to ballet as a way of making money when their guardian stops sending money for their keep.
I absolutely loved Rumer Godden's 'Listen to the Nightingale' as a child, and I still read it occasionally now. The impoverished Lottie struggles with her dream of becoming a star ballerina as she has no money, her best friend cannot help but be her arch rival for the main roles, and - worst of all - her old enemy turns up at ballet school and blackmails her into obeying him.
More lighthearted and much shorter is 'We Hate Ballet!', the first in Jahnna Malcolm's 'Scrambled Legs' series. Five new girls at Deerfield's dancing academy make unlikely friends and allies against the 'Bunheads' when they discover that they all loathe ballet. Great fun to read.
All of these are books I've loved and I would strongly recommend them to anyone who liked dancing.
