No, Billy Elliot was not gay. His friend Michael is, however. The play/movie makes an important point about gay stereotypes, in that just because Billy does ballet does not mean he is gay, and this point is made more noticeable by the fact that Michael (who does not do ballet) - his childhood friend - is.Is (or was) billy elliot gay?
