How can i classify or describe the movie about Billy elliot with relations to these 2 topics on sociology? Social Class and Socialization?Sociology questions for the movie billy elliot?
When describing Social Class focus more on the family. Coal (at least I think it was coal) miners who were on strike and had been for a long time. They were obviously poverty stricken. Also consider what it would have been like for the boy, coming from a family of tough coal miners and wanting to be a dancer (obviously not the norm for the son of a miner or someone from the lower class in general).
The Socialization is probably easier. The boy is obviously quiet and shy- lacking self-esteem, feels like most people are better than him. I think one of the best scenes, as far as socialization is concerned, is at the end. When the father and brother head into the city to see Billy perform. You can tell they are very uncomfortable in that environment. Then meeting Billy's old friend (now a cross dresser), certainly adds to the discomfort.
The whole movie has a social class thread running through it but most apparent is when Billy goes for the audition. Your thinking 'this kid hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell against these other brats' but his desire overcomes all obstacles.Sociology questions for the movie billy elliot?
