visiting from the USA.
kids - 6 and 9 - good kids and good with entertaining grown up material.
Would love to go see Oliver! at the Royal Drury Lane. Will it be too scary/long - for my younger child? good intermissions to give a break?
Best place to get a deal on tickets?
my second choice would be Peter Pan at Kensington Gardens - is this worth doing? perhaps we could do both - since this one is outdoors - and a different feel.
And Billy Elliot - enjoyed the movie - not sure about some of the scenes for my kids.
Any thoughts would be appreciated! ThanksVisiting London with kids - what Play should we see? Oliver!, Billy Elliot or Peter Pan?
I would agree with the above answer.
Having seen the film of Billy Elliot by accident when it was one TV, I'm not quite sure you'd find the language suitable for young children, especially a 6 year old. But I don't know, it would be at your discretion.
I'm not really much of a theatre buff, but I do know the best place to get tickets is lastminute.com. Did a quick search you for just now, and found you can get tickets as cheap as 拢15. Their search engine really will find you the best prices for the showings you want to see.
Have a great time in London.
Follow up:
If you can afford it, I would say yeah, see both. Both Peter Pan and Oliver are child orientated, so you should enjoy both. I would think that watching Peter Pan in a giant outdoor tent would add to the magic of the performance, where as Oliver in itself is an excellent musical. Remember that Peter Pan is only going to be around for a limit time, as the performances end in September. So see it while you can!
Hey, I would originally suggest Billy Elliot because I've seen it down the West End and it was absolutely amazing! The language might be a bit strong but if they're good with grown-up material, I would say it would be a good choice. It's a great performance - I saw it a couple years ago and still remember it vividly! :)
Or unless you've already seen it, I still remember the Lion King performance at the West End from a few years back, so either shows are amazing choices!
Tickets, I would search lastminutetickets.com or seetickets.co.uk [I think that's right.]
Have a nice time :) You'll enjoy yourselves whatever you see, really. xVisiting London with kids - what Play should we see? Oliver!, Billy Elliot or Peter Pan?
I think Peter Pan beats all the others hands down. It is a really wonderful experience, we have seen kids of all ages coming away from Peter Pan with shinning eyes, all looked like they had a wonderful time. A friend of mine took her kids and has recommended it highly. The Lion King is an alternative, unless you have seen it in the USA or want a British themed play. I would put Oliver second and Billy Elliot as the last choice. It is great but will be more enjoyable for you.
Oliver is the second most popular family show at the moment, with the Lion king topping the pole.
Tickets are at a premium, and will be even more so now that the kids are off school, well almost all of the kids.
Billy Elliot is very good but I would not advise it for children of the ages of your children as the language is very "ripe" at times and there are themes which young people mind find it hard to deal with.
If you haven't seen "The Lion King" I would suggest that. The music (by Elton John) is excellent and the special effects are truly magnificent.
I would definitely recommend Peter Pan for young kids, but Billy Elliot will run a good second. Billy Elliot was a bit more grown-up and serious, and I am not sure your kids won't get bored halfway through.
A good guide that I have come across about 10 ways to get cheaper musical tickets is here: london-insider.co.uk/2009/07/top-10-ways鈥?/div>

Note dog in picture! So Peter Pan the story comes from J.M.Barries on life, in part anyway.
