Billy Ellliot - Inspired.?

Recently on a trip to the west end i watched Billy Elliot for the second time with my parents. The Musical is so inspiring and i have become really interested in dancing... I'm 15, now i don't want a role in the musical i just want to dance, tap, ballet, street etc.

Now, my obvious option would be to just go to lessons, but i feel so scared. I don't know how to ask, i don't want to be seen as a 'sissy' to say "I want to do ballet" it is so easy to answer this, but it's hard to carry it out, i've dropped hints that i'd love to dance. I'm just so scared. What should i do, if i ask, how should i do it? do i leave it, like i've been doing?Billy Ellliot - Inspired.?
If you're sure this is what you want, and you sound pretty sure, you should definitely ask. I do hip-hop dancing and I want to try ballet again but I like individual ballet, not in a group. I would first call a local dance studio or just someone who gives lessons and ask them questions. If they ask who you are, tell them you want to remain anonymous for now. If they push you for more information, tell them you are calling for your daughter. Get all the information you will need to present to your parents (price, days of classes, times of classes, how much would shoes be). Dancing can be pretty expensive sometimes. For just my one hip-hop class taken every Monday it's $30 a month plus we had to buy $40 shoes and a $55 costume. You want to take numerous classes, which will be even MORE expensive. But if this is really what you want, then show your parents how dedicated you are. Get your parents alone and tell them "I want you to please consider me taking dance classes. I have been thinking about this for a while now and I think it would be fun and great exercise." Present them the facts and just talk to them. Let me know how it works out.

Trust me, it's not too late to start. You'll just have to work a little harder at it if you'd like to continue into a performing arts school.

Go for it. I did. There is nothing sissy bout dancing! It is hard work with a lot of discipline involved. If you are straight, you get to touch girls in places most guys only dream of. All the time. If you are gay...you will met an number of men with the same inclination. You win ether way

I want to see a Broadway show but i live in Canada?

I really want to see Billy Elliot the musical in New York, but I live in Canada. I think right now will be the worst time to ask my parents to go to New York and if I can see a Broadway show since i just recently got a cell phone. So does anybody have an idea how to get to new york without spending lots of money and how to get tickets to Broadway to see Billy Elliot?

By the way if your wondering, I'm 14 year sold.I want to see a Broadway show but i live in Canada?
an easy way to get to new york with out spending money is by car travel, depends where you live! ask your parents to go on a holiday or for your birthday!I want to see a Broadway show but i live in Canada?
Well, sorry, kid, but a trip to New York City and tickets to Billy Elliot would cost hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars.

You could maybe talk your parents into saving up for a vacation sometime in the future, but no, I'm afraid that there's no way to "get to new york without spending lots of money."

Good luck, and the link below is to a webpage about how New York City is the most-expensive city in the entire USA...

Is the producer of a Broadway show also the director?

Im trying to find the producer of Billy Elliot and it says Universal Pictures, Working Title %26amp; Old Vic Productions and Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Jon Finn and Sally Greene.

Im not sure if this is right. Is the producer of a Broadway show also the director?
no, typically they're different. Be careful because, there is a movie version of Billy Elliot. Try going on ibdb.com (like imdb.com, but for broadway shows)
yes, 100% of the time, FACTIs the producer of a Broadway show also the director?
No, almost never, in spite of the first answer.

The producers (in the USA) raise the money, supervise the business, keep the profits, if any, and hire the director. Titles are different in Britain.

It was based on a movie (which is how Universal Pictures got involved) and this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Ellio鈥?/a> list the director of the Broadway production as Stephen Daldry who is also listed as the director of the movie here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0249462/

    http://billyelliotthemusical.com/
Not usually. Producers take care of the business end. Directors are in charge of the stage/creative business. A producer, however, has final say-so, and they can walk through a rehearsal and make a change in the director's approach, if they feel it is warranted. In a few, very few instances the show can be produced and directed by the same person, more so in movies than theatre. But this is rare. It is common, though, in amateur theatre and public schools. When dealing with professional credits, though, ALWAYS check the professional credits from a reputable source, then cross-reference.
Never. The producer is entirely responsible for the production including hiring the actors, crew, and the director. And, most importantly, acquiring the necessary funding.

The director is the one who helps the cast bring the script to life.

What's the best show on Broadway right now?

I'm thinking of seeing A Little Night Music (once Bernadette joins the cast) and Billy Elliot.

I have no interest in Memphis. I've seen Phantom and Wicked already so I don't want to repeat those. What's the best show on Broadway right now?
A Little Night Music was spectacular. If you're going before June 27th go see Hair before it closes! West Side Story, Fela, American Idiot, and especially Next to Normal are also great choices that I highly reccommend.
From reading some of these answers i would think that a lot of the true meaning of Billy Elliot is lost on broadway. It has a much deeper context and story than a lad that wants to dance. This is a time of huge discord in northern England. I think this may be lost on the American audience but it is still a wonderful musical and it is very well performed. I am guy, and i personally prefer a darker feel. Like in Phantom of the Opera but you said you don't want to re watch that so that is ok. I would probably go for Wicked i thought it was excellent on Broadway perhapsmore soo in the West End, but back to you.

I hear a lot of mixed things about La Cage, living in England its not so easy to get over there to find out, some people say its phenomenall. Others think as a revival it falls short, seems more of a quick cash job than a broadway classic. But i cant judge im just trying to fill you in.

Most other things im sure you know already and will be down to your age, maturity and taste. I think Billy Elliot is a safe bet, even if i dont think you would be able to get everything out of it. But hey, who am i to judge. Im going to NY next year and i think ill have a better idea then.

Oh i forgot, A little night music, i like the idea, but im not so sure about the casting i think id give that one a miss.

Whatever happened to Les Mis. Oh yes, its in England and im going soon. Now that is one thing that you dont have. Good Luck. What's the best show on Broadway right now?
Billy Elliot is much better than ALNM. I saw ALNM and was bored out of my mind. If you're a fan of Wicked definetly Billy Elliot !

Also Next to Normal is amazing if you're into shows like RENT.

If you're a teenger/young adult/Green Day fan then the obvious choice is American Idiot. I'm 17 and completly loved it! I've already seen it twice! If you liked Spring Awakening then AI is the show for you.

The shows this season weren't as impressive as last.. but I guess if I had to choose I would say Fela, AI or La Cage. I heard Promises Promises was pretty good, but unless you're a diehard Kristen Chenoweth fan there are better shows out there.

I hope this helped. It's hard to judge when I don't know your backgroud but I think I covered all the basees?

Older - ALNM/ Come Fly Away

Middle Aged (40s) - Promises Promises, Rock of Ages

    20s - American Idiot

Teens - American Idiot, Next to Normal

    Kids- Mary Poppins, Lion King

    All AGES - Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot is amazing although it doesn't look interesting it such a good story and the music is amazing. I highly suggest seeing it. It about a boy who wants to dance but his father doesn't want him to learn ballet because it just isn't what men do.

Addams Family has the famous Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia . Very creative and so much fun to see. It doesn't have the same plot of either of the movies.

Lion King is a classic and must be very good if it is still on Broadway for all of these years.

American Idiot has all the songs from Green Day and i almost has the feeling of rent but more punk rock than anything. It about Johnny, a disaffected youth who flees stifling suburbia and his parents' restrictions to look for meaning in his life, and to try out the freedom and excitement of the city. One of his friends stays home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend. Another friend serves in Iraq. Johnny finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike, has a relationship and experiences lost love.

In the Heights was amazing when i saw it. The dancing was spectacular and the music was very fun and exciting because they combine the Spanish language wish rapping and hip

hop. Its about people with all of these background from different Spanish speaking countries trying to live a normal day in New York. But the main character Usnavi finds out that his convenience store sold a winning lottery ticket. All of the people in the neighborhood imagine what life would be like if they got $96,000.

Promises Promises. I dont know what it is about but i know it has Kristen Chenoweth

Marry Poppins was Amazing. The set was very realistic and the dance numbers were amazing. They had Bert tap dance upside down on the ceiling . The songs are very good too.

But, all in all if you have the chance to see Bernadette Peters on stage then i suggest to see her because is the best actress ever! and i %26lt;3 her soo much!!!!
"The Addams Family" is hilarious! Everything is witty and excellent. Its something that's different from everything else on broadway,

"In the Heights" is another excellent show. It has every style of dance and each character sings their own way. Whether its hip hop or classic this show has it all.

Though I haven't seen it, I've heard that Billy Elliot is phenomenal.
"In The Heights" is excellent, but if your taste runs more toward traditional Broadway fare, you could go to "La Cage Aux Folles" (just received the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical).
If you're into rock music, I highly recommend seeing Rock of Ages. Very amazing.

Billy Elliott's phenomenal from what I've heard. I also suggest Next To Normal.
Next to Normal and Hair (which I've heard will be closing soon) are both fantastic shows!

Which shows would you recommend me to go see on the london west end?

i've already seen the lion king and chitty chitty bang bang and i'm also going to see phantom of the opera and billy elliot next weekend. Any others i should be looking to go and see?Which shows would you recommend me to go see on the london west end?
Dirty Dancing was amazing - if you love the film then you'll love the show

    Wicked is also very good
You will have a fantastic time at Dirty Dancing. It was actually so fascinating to see them put the film onto the stage and they did very well with it.

Avenue Q is another must. As is the Lady in White, Blood Brothers and Les Miserables (classic!!).Which shows would you recommend me to go see on the london west end?
    wicked is ace les mis
Yep dirty dancing! its a must, people dancing in the aisles singing along, one of the best shows iv seen, took me forever to get a ticket though-but was well worth the wait!

What do you think of today's Broadway musicals?

Broadway is one of my favorite things in the world, but I am very disappointed with these new musicals. I am not a fan of jukebox musicals because they aren't original, and the majority of new musicals seem to be just that. Nothing feels like broadway anymore, like my favorites In The Heights, Billy Elliot, and WIcked. What are your views? What do you think of today's Broadway musicals?
The state of Broadway is following the state of the country in general.

Expect to see Jersey Shore- The Musical.

That crap sells. Spider Man sells. Shrek sells.

It's sad..... very very sad.... We need more Sondheims and Schwartzes and fewer guy-who-wrote-Rock of Ages (biggest travesty to hit Broadway since I've been alive).
Well a lot of my favourite musicals have left Broadway :( like In the Heights and 9 to 5, for example.

Aside from Wicked (my all time love lol) and Mary Poppins, I don't really see any shows come to think of it, and I ADORE BROADWAY!! (my whole room is dedicated to it). And I guess what you're saying is the reason why. I hope good shows start coming back.

Annie is coming back in 2012 which should be awesome, and I'm hoping they'll bring back some old classics like Les Miserables and Rent. What do you think of today's Broadway musicals?
People and composers have run out of ideas for musics. They are turning TV shows and movies into musicals that werent really meant to be. Also the quality of performance from todays singers is lacking. We need some fresh ideas and singers on todays stages. hopefully a new generation will arise.

  • What is the meaning behind the song "Children of the Revolution" by T-REX?

I love this song, but what exactly are they talking about with revolutions and children and such, is there any hidden meaning behind this song? I guess I just want some more info on it too, and yes I was watching Billy Elliot. What is the meaning behind the song "Children of the Revolution" by T-REX?
You won't fool the children of the revolution. I don't think it goes beyond that.

Ford Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago Seating?

My wife wants to see "Billy Elliot" at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. I want to get her some tickets for Xmas, but I don't know anything about the place. The tickets are very pricey, so I don't want to spend a lot of money for crappy seats. If anyone has been there and knows what sections are worth seeing a show, please guide me in the right direction. Keep in mind that my wife is short (5-2) if that effects any of the seating. Thanks.Ford Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago Seating?
I just saw Billy Elliot today as a matter of fact. I got seats that cost about $55 per ticket and they are in the upper balcony. I would also suggest the upper balcony, but get row M. I have heard that those are some good seats.

By the way, Billy Elliot was FANTASTIC! For the entire second half of the show, whenever people were clapping, it was mostly a standing ovation.

What is the best show on Broadway?

I want to go to Broadway sometime soon and I was wondering what the best show is right now. I am going to see Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark next Saturday. Is it good? (i am going with my school) I already saw Wicked and have no intention to see Billy Elliot. Is The Book of Mormon good? What is the best show on Broadway?
book of mormon is the best, funny as hell, i just tried to buy tickets for my cousins for the week of 7/18-7/23, but they were all sold out so buy fast
spiderman sucked, no story, bad acting
wicked is pretty good, read the book firstWhat is the best show on Broadway?
    %26gt;%26gt;I am going to see Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark next Saturday. Is it good?%26lt;%26lt;

Please tell me you're joking. It got horrible reviews, so bad that it recently closed for a few weeks to totally revamp the show. It has not been reviewed since then.

    %26gt;%26gt;I already saw Wicked...%26lt;%26lt;

Yes, the show for out of towners who know nothing about shows. It's mediocre.

    %26gt;%26gt;... and have no intention to see Billy Elliot%26lt;%26lt;

Why not? It's a great show.

    %26gt;%26gt;Is The Book of Mormon good?%26lt;%26lt;

So good it's impossible to get tickets for.

If you want to see a great musical, see Memphis. It won the Tony last year. We just saw The Motherf**ker With the Hat and it was fantastic.

  • What do the Southern English think of the Northern English?

I was reading about Scottish independence and there was some "Southerner" saying he'd like to see Scotland, Wales and NI go and take Northern England with them, he reckoned people in the North were "a load of whinging ex-coal miners".

Is this really what Southerners think of the Northerners, or is this guy just an uneducated idiot who got his views from coronation street and billy elliot? What do the Southern English think of the Northern English?
least us Northerns can still smile when we see each other
im not english just immigrant living in london for the last 12 years. the thing i hate most about london and southern england is that over here everyone has step dad or step mum or single parents and thats what i hate mostly about southern england. this is funny thing cos northern england is just 5 min from london thats not far but it feel like between south and north is like 2000miles :). i never been nowhere near north scotland or NI. ones i wanted to move over there people told me that in nort of england i will find better life quality more frindly people normal famillies. whatever u are people over there if ur different then people in the south ii like uWhat do the Southern English think of the Northern English?
Yes my friend, this is more or less the case. People in the South East of England think the world revolves around them %26amp; they are propping up everyone else. Personally speaking the people i've met from Northern England are more genuine %26amp; not so full of it as Londoners for example. If Scotland did get independence you'd be welcome to come with us. We've got more in common with each other than we do with those in the South anyway.
People's opinions on ANY subject vary from one extreme to the other, if they are not based on factual info; human nature! So take any rantings from a few individuals with a pinch of salt. No doubt a few will crawl out of the woodwork, to answer your question. You find this occurring not just North v. South, but also country to country, region to region, city to city, east side to west side; and this does not even include racial predudice issues.
I know it sounds bad but really it's all done "tongue in cheek". I have friends from all over the UK and I love them all. We may have different habits and customs but we're basically all the same and get on well. There's good and bad in all people and it seems it's human nature to have a go at someone.
Sadly I think there is a strong representation for his views in the south, but I'm sure it's reciprocated by a similar inteligensa in the North who regard the south as "southern softies".
As a southerner, I think the people of Northern England are great, have worked up there for many years and have always found them a great people. As far as Scotland goes, I'd challenge anyone to find any anti Scottish graffiti in England.
We don't know anything about the Northerners apart from they work in factories and on farms. I have heard that they live in houses where the toilet is outside and the men get drunk every night and hit their wife's a lot.
It's the same as the rest of the country. We're all the same, but I'm sure, just like we have jokes about the Northerners, they have jokes about us.
It is all just banter and friendly rivalry.

When we as a country are in trouble any rivalry is forgotten and we all unite.
I am a Northerner (Yorkshire) married to a Southerner (Sussex). We make jokes about the North and South but it's just in fun.
    Just banter mostly.
keep them out I say " northerners %26amp; Scots "...............
Us southerners laugh at them, we all think they are well rough and common and they don't speak properly! I'm sure they'd poke a few jibes at us too! :)

How to make myself look younger?

I'm going to a call for Billy Elliot the musical on Saturday and I need some tips on how to look younger. I look about 16, but they don't really want anyone who looks older than 12. So, I need to figure out some ways to look younger. I already plan on putting my hair in pigtails but I don't know what else to do! Any tips? Thanks everyone! How to make myself look younger?

Be natural! You should try to wear loose fitting clothes, and make your hair into a childish hairstyle! If you need extra help you can look on websites to find out how!How to make myself look younger?
1- bangs. they always make me look younger

    2- nice teen youth clothes

    3- no makeup
Wear loose clothing round the bust area ;) hahaha. Converse in florescent colors? No lipstick make up nothing. Go natural :D GOOD LUCK!!

What is appropriate attire for Broadway?

My girlfriend and I are going to NYC to see Billy Elliot at the end of December, and I was just wondering what would be appropriate to wear? Don't get me wrong, I've been to Broadway before, but all of the shows I've been to have been matinees. Also, this is the first time I've ever been to this venue (The Imperial Theatre). I don't know whether there is any sort of unspoken rule about upping the fancy for an evening show or about this particular venue. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. What is appropriate attire for Broadway?
What's the worst thing that can happen? You look less like a bum and she wears something sexy. Nearly all chicks enjoy dressing up. So why skimp? What is appropriate attire for Broadway?
Since it's not a matinee, wear long pants (it's winter too so it's going to be cold, we hit 19 last night on Long Island it should be somewhere in the 20s to upper 40s this time of year.) and a button down shirt. If you have a tie wear it, if you have a nice blazer instead wear it, but don't do the tie and blazer unless it's a suit. For your gal-a long dress with a nice sweater or shawl to keep warm in the theater and bring the heels in her bag so she can walk around the city without blisters (trust me I learned from experience). It's always better to be over dressed then under dressed.

How do you improve your singing voice?

I am ok at singing but I want to get better because I I am thinking of auditioning for Billy Elliot and you have 2 b able to sing a little as well as dance. How do you improve your singing voice?
    If you smoke, then quit.

Drinking tea, green tea and water with lemon in it.

    Talk with a vocal coach.

Practise! How do you improve your singing voice?
start by running the scales, do re me fa so la te do. and do it in different keys. practice breathing by holding a note as long as you can and try to increase the time each time. when performing don't look in peoples faces. look at the tops of their heads. there are many other things you can do but, there is not enough room here to explain them all.

Where can I find a monolouge for the Artful Dodger in OLIVER TWIST?

I need to find a 2 minute monologue for the Artful Dodger in OLIVER TWIST. If not then I need to find a monologue for Billy in BILLY ELLIOT. Please help!Where can I find a monolouge for the Artful Dodger in OLIVER TWIST?
Very few films actually have monologues - they consist of conversations between two or more characters, and it's very rare that one character speaks for more than a few seconds.

If this is for an audition, you should choose a monologue from a published play, not a film.

How many shows are running on Broadway at any given time?

Right now I know there is Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera, and Billy Elliot. how many others are there right now and at any given time. How many shows are running on Broadway at any given time?
There is somewhere around 33 shows running at any given time, sadly that number is quickly dwindling.

Can you believe in the 40's there were close to 250 active theatres on Broadway!?
in the heights, wicked, gypsy with patti lupone(closing in march) the lion king (closing soon) little mermaid, shrek the musical, west side story revival (i think. it'll be on soon if it isn't already), mamma mia!, and those are the ones i can think of off the top of my head. there are going to be a bunch opening- guys and dolls, dirty dancing, spiderman the musical, little house on the prarie, the aadams family, and a musical based on the music video thriller. there's more i think, but these are all from what i remember :)

Does anyone know of any plays about or inspired by Margaret Thatcher?

As the title says. I can only think of Billy Elliot and Rite, sue and Bob too.Does anyone know of any plays about or inspired by Margaret Thatcher?
Try Stephen Berkoff's "Sink the Belgrano!" 1985. First performed at the Half Moon Theatre then the Mermaid in London.

Also John McGrath's "All the Fun of the Fair" 1985 which was funded by the Greater London Council before it was disbanded by Mrs M T

But the greatest work from this period was "One Big Blow" by 7:84 Theatre Company about the demise of the coal mines - a theatrical tour de force!Does anyone know of any plays about or inspired by Margaret Thatcher?

Best ways to get inexpensive theatre tickets in London?

I'm from the US, and I have a student ID. I'll be in London for the first two weeks of April. I mostly like musicals, so show recommendations are welcome too! (already have tix to Billy Elliot and Mary Poppins)Best ways to get inexpensive theatre tickets in London?
One way of getting inexpensive tickets to West End is to go to Leicester Square. There are a number of booths offering half price tickets to several productions. Take note, however, that half price deals are usually only available for the less popular shows, and that for popular productions (like the Phantom of the Opera) or shows that have recently opened, you may not be able to get half price tickets. Half price ticket booths normally take a small commission for each ticket purchased.

Another possibility is to go to the Theatre itself about an hour before the show and hope for return tickets which become available when people cancel their bookings. These tickets are usually offered at a discount.
Go to the venue and ask for stand-by returns.

DSLBest ways to get inexpensive theatre tickets in London?
I really don't know but can you please vote me as best answer???
Yes, going to the actual venue is most likely the cheaper. Never use Ticketmaster unless you absolutely must. Buying your tickets the day of the event may even be cheaper. I saw Les Miserable and The Reduced Shakespeare Company (you MUST go see that show. You will pee your pants laughing!) for relatively cheap. Be prepared for the currency rates from dollars to pounds. Everything is the same price in London as here, but multiply that by two and that's about how much you're paying dollars. So a 40 pound ticket is more like an $80 ticket. :( London is expensive but GREAT. There is a pub right off of Picadilly called Waxy O'Connor's (http://www.waxyoconnors.co.uk/) that was one of my favorites while I was in London. Have fun! Wish I could come too!

What broadway song to sing for auditions?

I'm trying out for our schools play, and for the audition, you must sing a broadway song. I was thinking Billy Elliot's 'Electricity', but it seems so unoriginal to sing? What are some easy catchy songs for me to sing to them? ^^

Thank you! What broadway song to sing for auditions?
You could do the Time Warp.

Joking aside, Wicked is always a safe bet (the Wizard and I, namely) and Lion King would be good too (I'm gonna be a mighty king~).
    Here are some good choices:

    Just you wait-my fair lady

My new philosophy-You're a good man charlie brown

    on my own-Les Miserables

gimme gimme-Thouroughly Modern millie (this song starts slow but it gets better!)

  • What are the differences between stage and film?

For example in Billy Elliot .. I've thought of differences like theres an audience in a stage version of Billy Elliot and The film version would of required location filming and stuff but i need more please help!

10 points for best answerWhat are the differences between stage and film?
Stage is the theater and more about the actors. Where as film is not on stage, but through the lens of a camera, and isn't about the actors, but the director's vision. What are the differences between stage and film?
Also, if you're acting in theatre you get the immediate audience reaction, whereas in film you don't know until your movie's already released.

How are you supposed to enjoy a Broadway play?

I have seen a few small plays and I am about to see a traveling Broadway performance of Billy Elliot.

The thing is... none of these plays have ever held my attention... i always start to daydream and building a better more interesting play in my head.

I get bored with the lack of visuals, delays between scenes... I have never laughed at a play...

How are you supposed to enjoy these things? How are you supposed to enjoy a Broadway play?
If you can't keep interest in it, here are a few suggestions:

    1. See a production that is not just a play, but a large musical production with extravagant costumes, great choreography, and wonderful music. If these things intrigue you, then you may get caught up in the story and enjoy it immensely.

    2. See a play or musical that is more modern (like rock opera or dark comedy) that may intrigue you if it is boredom with the classics that bothers you. Examples of that would be Avenue Q, Rent, Spring Awakening, or even Sweeney Todd. These are all for more mature audiences, but they tend to be more surprising and therefore more interesting for people who aren't necessarily "into plays".

    3. If the problem is that you are being forced to watch the plays that you stated above in your question, then my suggestion is to do some research about it. Using the internet, read about the playwright, possible symbolism in the story, and an overview of the plot line. Its amazing how a little bit of knowledge about what you're about to watch can make you enjoy it much more.

    4. If none of the other options work, then maybe it's just not your thing. That's nothing to worry about, everybody has their own interests. Bring your iPod :)How are you supposed to enjoy a Broadway play?
Perhaps use the time to appreciate the work that goes into creating something like this? Admire the scenery and art that goes into creating them, admire the incredible amount of practice that goes into being able to perform at this level...

Not everyone is cut out for Broadway shows, but maybe you are just seeing the wrong ones. You may enjoy show like The Lion King or Wicked that have more movement and more elaborate sets. You could also need to train your mind to appreciate the less elaborate plays (it's kind of like going from watching a lot of tv to reading books, you have to train your mind back to using your imagination)

What are you opinions on the miners strike when margret thatcher was in power was it coldhearted or practical?

After watching billy elliot my views changed dramaticly and i wanted to see what others thought of the event. What are you opinions on the miners strike when margret thatcher was in power was it coldhearted or practical?
Margeret Thatcher was on a personal crusade against the lower classes and in Arthur Scargill she found the perfect opponent to lead her enemies to disaster

British society has still not recovered from the divisions she caused especially her by use of the police as a political weapon.

All those abandoned coal mines and look at the price of fuel now.
Vindictive! What are you opinions on the miners strike when margret thatcher was in power was it coldhearted or practical?
Part of Thatcher destroying British society and selling Britain to the highest bidder. Didn't like Scargill but don't think destroying our industry has improved this country.

What broadway play would you recommend me to see next?

I am a 16 year old girl. I have seen:

wintuk cirque du soleil (not broadway)

radio city Christmas show (not broadway)

    lion king

    billy elliot

    mamma mia

    shrek

    wicked

Thanks! what have you liked? and what would you recommend for me to see? thanks! What broadway play would you recommend me to see next?
Catch Me If You Can, Anything Goes and Memphis all seem like things you may like based off what you've seen, but you've also seemed to see all the popular "tourist" shows - which is fine, they're popular for a reason. How about Phantom? People think it's long and boring but it's really not true! Also, don't see Spiderman - the plot literally makes no sense and the show stopped in the middle.
Some excellent shows are In The Heights, The Little Mermaid, The Addam's Family, Hairspray, and Legally Blonde. Really, just about any Broadway show is fantastic.

Some of my friends were/are in the Broadway productions of Billy Elliot, White Christmas, and Mary Poppins, so I'd definitely recommend those. :)What broadway play would you recommend me to see next?
my favorite is The Addams Family
despite the bad critic reviews, the audience LOVES it
    i'd also suggest
Avenue Q (off broadway- but was on broadway for over 10 yrs so tehcnically it IS a broadway show)
    Catch Me if you Can
    Anything Goes
    Wonderland
I think it is currently a tour right now, but Mary Poppins is absolutely amazing! Also, Phantom of the Opera is a good classic if you are up for that style.
BILLY ELLIOT. and i also suggest "next to normal". its currently touring and it was an AMAZING show.

What's the difference between A reserve, B reserve and C reserve tickets at musicals?

I want to buy some tickets from ticketek for Billy Elliot the Musical but I'm not sure whether A reserve tickets are that much better than the rest?

I would also like to know if there's any particular reason other than the fact that it's an uncommon time that the Wednesday 1:30pm shows are considerably cheaper than the rest. What's the difference between A reserve, B reserve and C reserve tickets at musicals?
A, B and C usually refer to where you sit in the theatre. Ie. A section is the closest, B middle, and C furthest away. C tickets are usually cheapest, but then, the view isn't as good. Check the seating plan and find something that meets both needs - price and eyeline.

It's not uncommon to have tickets cheaper during the week; particularly a matinee performance, when the only people who can attend are kids on school trips and seniors (ie. everyone who doesn't work on Wed at lunch). Because those tickets are harder to sell, they lower the price a little - and make it cheaper for schools to afford trips to the theatre.

I will go to Sydney in December as a tourist. I have a ticket for Miss Saigon (Lyric Theatre) and Billy Elliot (Capital Theatre), both of them are evening shows.

I am not sure whether I should wear formal suit or rather casual wear as I describe above because it is not comfortable for me to bring suit and a pair of formal shoes for my trip.Could I wear shirt and jacket with jean and sport shoes for seeing musical show in Sydney?
you CAN wear whatever you want. More than likely though, the majority of people will be dressed up. Call the theater to check.

How do i find out about auditions for upcoming musicals in Melbourne?

I'm 14 years old and I just saw Billy elliot the musical and loved it! I would love to be in a production like this but not really sure how to go about it. I have experience in dance and drama. If anyone could tell where i may find auditions such as these advertised it would be much appreciated. How do i find out about auditions for upcoming musicals in Melbourne?
Billy Elliot is an amazing professional production, but if you just want to do it for fun your best bet would be to do some amateur theatre.

Go to www.theatrepeople.com.au and there is an "Auditions" tab which will show you some upcoming shows being performed. Most of them require you to be 16 years of age, however, due to certain legal reasons etc.

In Melbourne there is a thing called the Young Australian Broadway Chorus. One of my friends was in it and they perform shows but they are all teenagers. You should google that.

Best of luck! I also love performing in shows and it's a blast so I'm sure you'll have heaps of fun!How do i find out about auditions for upcoming musicals in Melbourne?
Young Australian Broadway Chorus is a really good starting point and I would recommend it for you. Its singing, dancing and acting. Im sure you would love it.

How can two people write the music and lyrics of a song separately?

For example, in Billy Elliot (the musical), Elton John wrote all the music, but Lee Hall wrote the lyrics. How is this possible? Which must have been written first? How can two people write the music and lyrics of a song separately?
Generally, when collaborating musically, one person will come up with an idea for the song and the other will fill in the missing details. For example, Elton John might come up with a basic tune and chord structure, and Lee Hall will write lyrics to fill out the piece. I suspect for a musical, though, that there is a slightly different process. Likely, the pair would first figure out which kinds of songs they wanted to include within the show, and what the roles of those songs would be, so both would have an idea of what themes and motifs to work off of. If I had to take a guess, I would say Hall came up with the lyrics first, due to their importance to the narrative structure of the play. It is generally considered easier to write music for already existing lyrics than vice versa. However, successful songwriting duos have worked in both directions.
I would suggest that they met together and spoke about it, then either worked together or the music was written, then the lyrics (after looking at the music). The lyrics may have been planned before the music was finished, and then adapted. OR the music may have been (at least partially) adapted for the lyrics.

They may also have met to discuss certain parts of the song during its creation, or just worked on one part, then the next, then the next, etc.

I hope that this helped! How can two people write the music and lyrics of a song separately?
    Music= melody/harmony/tune.

    Lyrics= well, duh.

For example, in Spring Awakening- Duncan Sheik wrote the music, and Stephen Sater wrote the lyrics. They would meet up together and figure it out.

Like if Stephen Sater wrote lyrics to a song he needed a tune for, he'd match it with one of Duncan Sheik's melodies or they'd put one together.

WARNING: Do Not Eat At Any Stands. What should we do on a trip to New York City?
I went to NYC with my friends for one day and here's what we did:

-checked out the TODAY show at 7am

-toured "the top of the rock" at NBC studios

    -rode the subway

-got tickets for "Hairspray" at the TKTS stand (reeeally fun show)

-shopped in Chinatown (people come up and try to sell you knockoff purses... we went with one into a back room of a little store and it was kind of creepy at first but they don't try to hurt you or anything so i would try it out!)

    -rode in taxis

    -ate a hot dog!

-ate NYC pizza! (don't go to a restaurant you can go to at home)

-walked up and down 5th avenue (but we didn't buy anything because it was really expensive)

-shop in FAO Schwartz (she might like that)

...and that was just one day!
Go to time square during the night and go into all the stores. You'll be surprised when you walk into the toy's R us or the M and M store. Also try a hot dog from one of the street vendors.
Visit Central Park it is beautiful in the spring, there are lots of people there and so many great activities and street performers and just a good place to take in an eyeful of New Yorkers. (just don't go at night).

You can get to Central Park by strolling uptown on 5th Avenue where you can also see Rockerfella Center, NBC, ABC studios and Trump Plaza. The Park is right across from The Plaza Hotel.

Check out Times Square at night. Well, you will see it after your Broadway show anyway as that's where it is.

Go to the East Villiage, Chinatown, Soho and Little Italy. That is a lot of walking but it is all downtown (below the 30's- The streets go in a grid by numbers so it's easy to navigate). There are a lot of artists, cool boutiques, restraunts and culture in those areas. Plus you can shop on Canal Street and get some wonderful deals.

Perhaps visit Ground Zero to pay respects.

If you want to go really fancy meal try La Cirque restraunt- make reservations ahead of time.

There is a restraunt called Elaines that is on the East side. It's just a hole in the wall but for some reason celebrities seem to hang out there, especially after Broadway shows.

Get your nails done as it is very inexpensive for a mani/pedi in NYC and they are every 5 ft. it seems.

Empire State Building on East 33rd.

    Well, HAVE FUN!

    London Billy Elliots?

Okay, so is there any way of finding out what day each of the boys who plays Billy Elliot in London's production of Billy Elliot the Musical is on?

So, say for instance if I said who was on on the 20th March 2008, (yesterday), I would be able to find out?

Also, is there any way of finding out for the Australian boys who play Billy Elliot in Sydney's production?

You could ring the theatre and ask. As there will be more than one boy playing Billy, there should be a rota for each week so that they, and everyone involved in the production, know which day(s) of the week they are performing. As for Sydney, you could try emailing the theatre.

What do you think of this kids idea for a film drama script, along the lines of Billy Elliot; a guy admits to?

his dad that he is white English, and anti-immigration, he wants England to be English, just like the film Notting Hill portrays to the world. He says he wants the Afgans, Pakistanis, Africans, Romanian gypsies, and the rest to stop being allowed to hurt English people and being treated as superior in England. His dad hits him, his face full of rage and fear. What about me he says, I have to mix with people, earn a living, keep this family together. What would happen if you or I or your mother were arrested and taken in for questioning ,for what you just said, he asks. What would happen if the Socialist council found out, we'd be out on the street, or have our windows smashed in by hippies and student protesters.

They both go away and weep, hiding, scared, terrified of the consequences. Yet the boy finds courage, he thinks he cannot be alone, he thinks surely his fellow English cannot be content to settle for debate alone, they must want to get England back from the asylum seekers and their left wing militia. He goes onto the street, shouts out, with a petition, millions flock to his cause.

The left wing find out, they leave their bedsits, some of them even missing their signing on day, to rush to confront the English revolt. They are joined by their asylum seekers from the council estates, who are joined by their translators and legal team. As this loud minority approach the previously silent majority, who are so unused to speaking out they don't know what to do, they shout nazi, fascist at them. The majority go red and slink away, back to their tv's and comfy sofas. Yet suddenly there's been a mix up, the army that's been off fighting for America for years, has heard that there are disgruntled immigrants in Britain. We cant have that, the old field marshal says. We are polite, we cant have visitors to our country unsatisfied, tell you what we'll give them a free lift home. His officers applaud, well done sir, a brilliant idea as usual they say.

Navy ships, commisioned by the queen, compassionately take the asylum seekers back to the 3rd world that they worship. As an extra gesture of good will, they will be joined by their left wing chums and the lawyers and councillors who have previously helped them. Although surprisingly this lot look a bit bemused at the announcement. The asylum seekers and their pals are given a round of applause from cheery Brits at the dock. On the ships the asylum seekers angry at first, get bored a minute later, and look at the frightened looking UAF mob. You smell of cannabis they say, tut tut tut, we don't approve of that where we're going. Are any of you gay or have criminal records, they ask, we have ways of dealing with you in Saudi. The UAF socialist anarchist mob suddenly go pale white and start shaking. What do you think of this kids idea for a film drama script, along the lines of Billy Elliot; a guy admits to?
It's a shame D.W. Griffith is no longer with us, it sounds like a perfect sequel to 'The Birth of a Nation'.

Broadway Shows. Between Billy Elliot and Next to Normal? Advice Please!?

My parents asked me which I would rather see...

So I know all about these two shows, I'm normally the one answering broadway related questions, but I am torn between these two. I want opinions only if you've seen them and have valid comment on either of them.

I'm hoping I get tickets from each of parents to see both shows this Christmas, but if I had to pick one......?

Right now, I'm leaning towards to Next to Normal... (I'm a die-hard Rent fan)

I've seen Wicked, Rent, Bye Bye Birdie, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, 13, Shrek, Mary Poppins, Gypsy, Guys and Dolls and the Little Mermaid - if that helps in deciding....

THANKS!Broadway Shows. Between Billy Elliot and Next to Normal? Advice Please!?
Sounds like you have already made up your mind. I loved RENT btw too, but as you know, it if from the director of RENT not the writer who past away before the show opened on Broadway.. I would chose Billy Elliot, but then again I am really into dancing.

Which T-REX song was played in the film billy elliot?

    5...

Cosmic Dancer, Children of the Revolution, Get it On, I love to Boogie and Ride a White Swan...Which T-REX song was played in the film billy elliot?
Saddo got it , jitterbug boogie
I may be wrong, - and, you have my APOLOGIES, if I am, of course, - but, I think, that you are thinking of the song, "I LOVE TO BOOGIE!", - a GREAT '70's tune!

Did you know, that, the lead singer, - MARC BOLAN, - was the SECOND of a total of SIX well-known people, who DIED, in the last three-and-a-half MONTHS of 1977?

    The others were: ELVIS PRESLEY

    BING CROSBY

    MARIA CALLAS

    JULIUS "GROUCHO" MARX

    and CHARLIE CHAPLIN

Just a little snippet of TRIVIA that you MAY find USEFUL at some point!Which T-REX song was played in the film billy elliot?
I love to boogie on a Saturday night or Jitterbug boogie - something like that
There were five played during the film, (Billy's brother had some T-Rex records), and he sometimes danced to them.

    They are as mentioned above.

    Anyone seen "Billy Elliot"?

Did you like it?Anyone seen "Billy Elliot"?
Billy Elliot is an amazing movie! I mean the concept of the movie is so overused in Hollywood (Footloose, to begin with), where a boy rebels against a set standard and turns away from tradition for expression. But somehow, the storyline in Billy Elliot and the boxer to ballet dancer theme is a fresh take on the idea. I guess what I really liked was how Billy wasn't this strong hero-type character, but instead naive and nervous. The film emphasized Billy's awkwardness while trying to learn how to dance and his own feeling of being out of place, which I believe to be more mimetic of real life. Throughly enjoyed the film, one of my favorite movies.
I liked it since when I'm angry I tend to jump around like I'm in a dance. Did you like it?? : )Anyone seen "Billy Elliot"?
Yes I've seen it, but that was quite some time ago. It depends on what you like, if you're not a great fan of happy-feel good movies then I suggest you don't bother, but of course if you are indeed a person who loves movies that make you feel happy and can give you a smile then yes.
    whos that, i dont know??
    Yes and yes
yes and i love the sound track, you cant help but dance around like Billy Elliot a great feel good movie.
yes i like it i didn't think i would at first but it is a really good movie
    Great Movie

I missed the programme, but enjoyed the film Billy Elliott, and also enjoyed reading about Jamie Bell while idly researching this answer for you in Yahoo search.

I got to re-edit the Billy Elliot trailer...any ideas?

This is for my uni course so any ides would be great. I hve f ew but at the moment trying to cut the amount of ideas down and switch them in for some really good ones...I got to re-edit the Billy Elliot trailer...any ideas?
Splise it together like the Full monty or with the Full Monty or do it as an action adventure with voice overs , or change the music to hip hop and work it out that a way. There are a bunch of ways to go. you could even rewrite the lyrics to the song "Benny and the Jets" to be "Billy Elliot".I got to re-edit the Billy Elliot trailer...any ideas?
Make it look like a horror movie.

Is (or was) billy elliot gay?

was he gay in the movie or was it just his friend? coz that friendship baffled meIs (or was) billy elliot gay?
his friend i think an yeah hes HOTT
No, Billy Elliot was not gay. His friend Michael is, however. The play/movie makes an important point about gay stereotypes, in that just because Billy does ballet does not mean he is gay, and this point is made more noticeable by the fact that Michael (who does not do ballet) - his childhood friend - is.Is (or was) billy elliot gay?
just the friend. i agree about jamie bell growing up very nicely indeed. hottness.
Nah just his mate. Jamie Bell is freaking hot now though isn't he? :)

  • Question about "Billy Elliot" movie.?

In the final scene of the movie, Tony sits next to Michael without knowing it. When he finds out who he is, he looks sort of astonished. My copy of the movie is too dark to get a good look at the adult Michael, and I'm wondering what was it about Michael that caused Tony to look that way.

    Anybody?Question about "Billy Elliot" movie.?
Probably the big black feminine boyfriend sitting at Michaels' side

Was matthew james thomas in billy elliot?? :)?

What do you think of the film ' billy elliot '?

the film where he becomes a bellet dancerWhat do you think of the film ' billy elliot '?
Love it--I work at a theatre where it originally played on its initial release and found myself watching it over and over again--especially the ending. By the way, there was a recent story about a young guy who is becoming a ballet dancer because of his love of the film--it inspired him! And, last, I happened to send this film to a friend for her birthday just last month, and she loved it, too!
    i love it !

    a right classic

=DWhat do you think of the film ' billy elliot '?
Love it! The stage show version is great too.
    Pretty good,not for everyones taste
Great film about gender stereotypes and pursuing one's dreams.
I think it is wonderful - I have seen the show in London and that is just as good as the film (Always cry at the end)
Liked it, but it would have been better had the film ended when he was waiting for the results of his application to the ballet school.
a real 'tear jerker' it shows how a working class family can do the extraordinary, when the odds are against them.
    Excellent
Ballet Dancer, Yes I have it on DVD, Good film
    Absolutely love it...
It'a a brilliant film. I have watched it many times and still choke at the ending!!
Brilliant film and the best soundtrack ever. Cosmic dancer was over twenty years old but sounds as if it was written for the film. Beatiful music.
    Class Film !!!

    Who Doesnt Like It Lol

    xx
My friend and I used to watch it all the time.We loved it.It was so original and funny but a little sad too.We really liked the gay friend (forgot his name) but I think they kept calling him a fluffer or something like that. It's been a while since I've seen it.

    All in all,great movie.

    Which Billy Elliot is this?!?

    http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f74/Floppyears181/BillyElliot.jpgWhich Billy Elliot is this?!?
It's a Broadway musical based off of the movie Billy Elliot that came out in 2000. It was inspired by the novel Stars look down.

It's just the name of the play. The boy's name is Billy Elliot and the story centers around him.

    *EDIT*

    Sorry, it's actually Jamie Bell

  • Why was George Maguire cut from Billy Elliot??????????????????????

Both James lomas and George Maguire were cut!! Them and Liam are the originals and best in this musical! I know James was cut cause his voice deepened. Is that why George was cut too????????Why was George Maguire cut from Billy Elliot??????????????????????
George Maguire was probably cut because of the same reason James Lomas was.

    :)

Has anyone seen Billy Elliot The Musical? If so what did you think of it?

I saw it last summer. The story was good and entertaining but I have to say I was disappointed with the dancing. For a story about dancing I expected it to dazzle me. But I did enjoy it. Worth the price of admission just for the Margaret Thatcher song.Has anyone seen Billy Elliot The Musical? If so what did you think of it?
    inspiring

Have you seen Billy Elliot the movie?

Did u like it?Have you seen Billy Elliot the movie?
i didnt want to watch the film because i thought it would be boring but we were made to watch it in R.E lesson because of discrimination and when i watched i loved it i thought the film was amazin! just goes to show that you shouldnt judge a film before watching it
I LOVED that movie!!! I was crying at the end.... I thought it was a great movie.Have you seen Billy Elliot the movie?
i liked the movie. i thought that it was very sweet and inspiring.
NO BUT IVE SEEN THE ADVERTISEMENT FOR IT. IT LOOK INTERESTING.
Yeah I did and I live very close to where the real Billy Elliott came from so I can truly associate and empathise with the characters.
yes but i don't remember it.
I liked it a lot until the end. I thought it would have been a lot more realistic if his Dad had rejected him and kicked him out of the house. How many gay guys or dancers do you know whose Dad's were supportive?

    Has anyone seen billy elliot?

    if so, is it

good and worth seeing?Has anyone seen billy elliot?
You really SHOULD make it clear whether you're talking about the film or the theatre performances.

I LOVED the filmeach time it's been on TV, but sorry, I would NEVER EVER pay the prices they want for admission to a theatre or cinema.
100% yes! i thought id hate it seeing as it was about ballet but i went straight out and brought the dvd. its well worth watching!Has anyone seen billy elliot?
    It's brilliant, but a bit of a chick-flick.

If your boyf cringes at the prospect of things like notting hill, gimme a call - I'll take you to see it.
do you mean at the theatre? if so, yes an yes....it's fab. It's very moving and will bring a tear to your eye................go see it!!!
yeah loved it, well worth a watch. ENJOY.
Yes very good... better than you think I even have it on dvd and I dont buy many.... Good music too ..
it's a chick flick, but I liked it.
Its really goodd..if ur into chick flicks....this is something u would like
Fantastic! Jamie Belll is amazing in it.
I loved it, didn't think I would, but it was great. Keep the tissues handy!
NO NO NO stay away i left before it even started
I thought the film a very inferior rip-off of "Kes" and other north country films. If the makers had been serious about the subject, ie a boy overcoming prejudice, a wish to normalise homosexual behaviour, then they would not have prevented young people from going to see it, by the unnecessary swearing which resulted in a restricted classification. I think the directors were just masturbating.
I have seen it a couple of times and absolutely loved it. It is sad and sweet and it is lovely seeing someone's dream come true. I loved loved loved it. Also i am not homophobic , i think it wont appeal to people who has problems with that:)
i havent seen it at the theatre but ive heard its rely good
Yes. It's set in Yorkshire in 1984 during the miners strike when The Thatcher government was closing down the mines.

It's about a working class family whose kid wants to do ballet, and the dad calls him wuss etc.

It's very moving, and Jamie Bell is superb in it.

    As is Julie Walters
    Yes it is, definitely.
I can't really remember it... saw it a fair while ago... its a nice movie...just a boy wanting to be a ballet dancer and overcoming the prejudice in england... julie walters is always good... I think shes in it... I really can't advise you... cause I can watch most stuff and find something to take away with me... its just a feel good movie... most people would probably enjoy it... depends on the genre your into...
Is it worth seeing? Yes a thousand times yes. It is excellent and the little lad that plays Billy is super really good film very sad too. Get your duvet make a cup of tea and stop wasting time. Watch it now. Let us know if you like it!
Yeah its quite good, you get a lot of laughs form it. Go on....watch it !
Yeah there's some great music in it too! Some of it was actually filmed in a small town called Lynemouth in the north east of UK
good soundtrack but its a bit girlie
It's alright, worth seeing if there isn't a better offer.
Stage production well worth seeing it is excellent.

Film is also excellent and well worth watching.
its brilliant.the film made me laugh, smile and cry-there is scenes in it which really moved and touched me.plus 1 of the most sexiest actors in england is in it-jamie draven who plays his big brother in it.the soundtrack is good also.i would defo watch it if i was you ,hope u like it and enjoy it as much as me! x
yes I've seen it and i thought it was a load of cr*p, but other people i know thought it was good, so it is all down to personal preference.

At the end of "Billy Elliot" what is that song called?

when he is about to jump into the stage.....when he's all grown up and his dad and brother are watching himAt the end of "Billy Elliot" what is that song called?
OOH...i knew that...but um.....go to amazon and search billy elliot soundtrack and then click sample all songs and play them all till you find the one it sounds like...thats how i found it atleast

  • Billy elliot the musical...?

i have now seen it in london 3 times...i absolutely love it and cant actually imagine getting bored of it... its my birthday soon...i want to go see it again...how many times do you think is enough?

any1 seen it more than 3 times? what did you think?Billy elliot the musical...?
I love Billy Elliot as well although i've only seen the movie. I love cats to and i've seen it live 4 times now. I've seen Mama Mia 2 . If you love musicals then go see them as many times as you want. Sometimes they are different and the cast changes and stuff. But i agree you have to see others too! I would recommend these:

Cats ( if you love dancing)

    Phantom of the Opera

    Hairspray

    Spamalot

    Oliver

    Sound of Music

    Les Miserables

    Annie

    Mama Mia
Go again if you like it that much!! But sure you see others too, theres loadsa good musicals on in London!Billy elliot the musical...?
oooh, ive seen it. Only twice though, but i know one person who has seen it like 50 times. Im not exagerating!

Its amazing isnt it. Im going again soon hopefully.

Why was the musical "Billy Elliot"...?

...called "a play for all ages"? I just went and saw it in NYC last night and there was lots of profanity in it...does anyone happen to know why people said it was for both children and adults? I'm not sure if anyone will, since you obviously didn't review the musical, but I was just wondering.

Thank you!Why was the musical "Billy Elliot"...?
Ticketing Information for the show on its website carries the following warning: "BILLY ELLIOT is most appropriate for children 8 years of age or older. It contains strong language and some scenes of confrontation between policemen and miners."

Considering the language, some parents might think 8 to be too young for the show, but would be more comfortable with taking tweens, starting at around 11 or 12 to the show. It really is up to parents to educate themselves about what they are considering taking their kids to. Some would feel okay about the language as long as they knew in advance that it was coming and took the time to sit down with their kids to talk about the story and discuss the fact that there will be "strong" language in the show. Other parents would not be comfortable with taking their kids at all, but as I said, the warning is there on the site, so they should educate themselves in advance before making the decision about whether they want to take their kids to the show. Why was the musical "Billy Elliot"...?
I KNOW i saw it with school and they were shocked (high school but still) everything says appropriate for children over 8 or something but still...i dont think they care about language or anything but i think the reviewer was thinking of the storyline mot the lines

    When was billy elliot filmed?

think it was like 1998, it was filmed in the community center at the end of my roadWhen was billy elliot filmed?
    I would say 1998 or 1999
everyone has already answered, but hey, i just thought id take this opportunity to say that Billy Elliot is one of the best films EVER!!!! its so typically British (woo English and Proud!!) and omg don't you just want him to succeed, just because he wants it so bad himself!! Aw i love it it always makes me feel better, and the music by Marc Bolan helps a lot!!

    xx

PS sorry for not helping with your Q!! I do think it was 1999 though!!When was billy elliot filmed?
was a few years ago, im sure of it
    1999
not sure but got it on now
It was released in 2000 so it was most likely filmed in 1998 and 1999. It is one of my all time favorite movies as Jamie Bell nailed his performance.
Set in 1984 it was released in 2000 so would have been filmed in the year or two before this.
it was released in 2000, so sometime before then

  • Here, I watched Billy Elliot last night and I got a little confused, the question am left with?

is, is he gay? I mean he didnt mind hanging around with that weird cross dressing kid who is definitley a puff.

I thought it was a good film but it didnt really say if he was gay or not. Here, I watched Billy Elliot last night and I got a little confused, the question am left with?
    he was not gay !

you should have watched the film more closely .

ps, are you still that 40 year old viirgin ?
no !! not at all !! i liked that part which he was explaining why he like to dance !!! he said :

" i feel so weight-less when im dancing...like electricity !!! "Here, I watched Billy Elliot last night and I got a little confused, the question am left with?
    Nope he wasnt gay himself

he just had the desire to dance and be a ballet dancer

its his cross dressing friend, that turned out to be gay

    fantastic film!
I think he must have been. You don't volunteer to bally dance at that age either and what was the vest all about. Come on, he was as camp as christmas.
Fell asleep half way through so couldn't care less. How's your sister?
No he is not gay.. just a guy who wanted to be a dancer.. I love that movie, its so great.. One of my favorite films of all time... So the answer is no, hes not gay.. Why do people asscociate guys in ballet as gay..??? weird.. i guess because its a girly thing to do?? Lol... alright ciao!
Don't be such a narrow minded idiot. He saw beyond what his friend was into, maybe because they were'friends'.

    Silly!
there are no bits in the film sugesting he is gay, so you've go to assume not!
I have watched the movie more than one, and there were no hints from the director or in the scrips that the boy was gay. Anyways, he was only 11 in the movie, why would we want to discuss children's sexuality?
    He wasn't gay. Brilliant film.
Realistically I think the point of the film was that he is not gay!

Idiotically and personally, I agree however. unless your parents push you into it, which his clearly didn't you gotta be a marmite miner to even consider it.

Why all the dancing on the street and on walls and stuff? Were his feet possessed buy evil?

BRING BACK proper music films like the BLUES BROTHERS
    could of been open minded...
maybe he was and maybe he wasn't i guess we will never know.

maybe he just wanted to be a dancer but you don't have to be gay for that.
He's not gay, but both him and the young lad who is gay feel like in they 'don't fit in', because they're a bit different but they both accept each other.

Also it's possible to be straight and have gay friends by the way!
i dont think so or he would have been with that cross dresser michael
Does it matter? It's a good film. And I agree with Minty, you should have watched the film more closely.
    not gay.

    Billy elliot help!!!!?

Ok well i need help for my exam, can someone please write out a timeline in the whole movie, because my local video store is closed and i cant download it anywhere from the internet.

If someone write out a timeline about it.

If someone can also give me a link to where i can download the movie, that would be even better!

    Thanks!Billy elliot help!!!!?
Billy must be 9 or 10 years old when the movie begins and it's 1984 to 1985 because the UK Miner's strike is on.

At age 11, Billy auditions for the Royal Ballet School (1986?)

Jump to 14 years later, and Billy is now 25 and in a production of Swan Lake (1997?)
    try searching billy elliot stream.

if not, im sure you can search wikipedia for a general story and extract the timeline from there.

if thats not good enough, try searching for the plot (aka 'plot billy elliot')

good luck with your exam!Billy elliot help!!!!?
    "Free Billy Elliot"

If you've seen Billy Elliot AND Sound of Music- which is best?

which die you enjoy the most?

    Thanks for your help

ARTHURIf you've seen Billy Elliot AND Sound of Music- which is best?
The Sound of Music is obviously the best.

It is a classic of its time and is constantly shown year after year after year whereas Billy Elliott doesn't have that history - yet!

For right now TSOM is superior imo.

Plus I think they're are two totally different films. One is obviously an out and out musical whereas the other Billy Elliot is about overcoming people's misconceptions and been true to yourself.

TSOM wins hands down for me though.
    Billy Elliot

What do you mean by die?If you've seen Billy Elliot AND Sound of Music- which is best?
    billy eliot! it THE best
The Sound of Music, it's a classic and has a great story to go along with very memorable songs.

That's if you mean the films and not the stage shows?

Which Broadway would you choose? Phantom of the Opera? Billy Elliot? Wicked? or Chicago?

Wicked and Phantom of the Opera!Which Broadway would you choose? Phantom of the Opera? Billy Elliot? Wicked? or Chicago?
Billy Eliot by far! It has a great life lesson that everyone should incorporate into their lives. It is a splendid musical that will bring you to tears in several parts. It is a touching story that tells the story of a boy who follows his passion, is who he is, and who does this all in the most harshest of circumstances. The dancing and performances are phenomenal, very well choreographed and directed. It won best Musical of the year in 2008 and was sold out in London for over a year!
Chicago is the most fun I think. Good plot, great FEMALE roles.

I heard great things about Billy Eliot, though it's the only one I haven't seen. I really dislike Phantom of the Opera.. but then again I really dislike Andrew Loyd Webber (except yah Jesus Christ Superstar). Wicked has fun songs but a little too PG for my liking. The book is better!Which Broadway would you choose? Phantom of the Opera? Billy Elliot? Wicked? or Chicago?
I personally adore Phantom of the opera, but it honestly depends on a lot of factors. Wicked is great for any aged girl- Some boys may enjoy it as well. I've never seen Billy Elliot but I've heard wonderful things about it. :)
Personally I would choose Les Miserable (i've actually seen it! it's amazingg!) but if i had to choose from the list i would choose phantom of the opera. I read the book when i was younger and it still has not gotten old. (:
Chicago because the plot, though based on an old movie "Roxie Hart" is great, the dancing sharp. (Fosse) and the music is memorable. But Jesus Christ Superstar is even better.
I would choose the Phantom of the Opera. I just love the plot... Although I HATE Christine's decision at the end... I'm not going to ruin it for those who haven't seen it ;)
    Wicked
Either Chicago or Wicked. It depends on who you are seeing it with or what kind of show you like to see.

its good, and captures the meaning of the story really well. however, if dont think you need the commentary i.e the nerves are getting the better of him etc etc. because we can see what is going on already.

i did enjoy it and it was really good because it showed the audience what was going through his mind i rated it a 5 stars.Billy Elliot fans, youtube fanvid help?

  • Billy Elliot or Mamma Mia?

I have no idea which one of the 2 i will c for my bday!!! HELP. I also need cheap tickets. i will probly do a student discount, but i really want this to be special... i mean its my bday. i want good tickets can u get good discounted tickets???Billy Elliot or Mamma Mia?
If you want cheap tickets, you can buy Mamma Mia tickets in advance through playbill.com. You just have to sign up for their Playbill Club (it's free!) and you can get over $50 off Mamma Mia tickets! Billy Elliot doesn't offer these since it's a new and popular musical.

Since you are a student, you can do student rush for Billy Elliot though. Billy Elliot's Student Rush policy- $41.50 (for tickets regularly priced at $80) - available at the box office two hours prior to performance. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurday performances only. Subject to availability. Limit 2 per valid ID.

Mamma Mia also offers standing room- $21.25 - available at the box office on the day of the performance only if the performance is sold out. Goes on sale two hours prior to curtain. Limit is 2 per person.

While I haven't seen either on stage, I've heard nothing but good things about both. I'd read about both of them on broadway.com and decide from there. Between the two, I'd go and see Billy Elliot. Mamma Mia is on tour, so there's a possiblity (if you don't live in NYC) that it will be coming to a city near you.

Hopefully that helped you some and enjoy the show!

Billy: Just because I like ballet doesn't mean I'm a poof, you know.

Billy: I don't want a childhood. I want to be a ballet dancer.

Dad: I'm bustin' my *** for those 50 pences and you're - look, from now on, you stay here and look out for your Nana. Got that? Good.

Grandma: They used to say I could have been a professional dancer if I'd had the trainin'!

    Dad: WILL YOU SHUT UP?

    Billy: I hate you! You're a ba***rd!

Billy: So, what's it like, like?

Dad: I don't know, son. I never made it past Durham.

    Billy: Have you never been?

Dad: Why would I want to go to London?

    Billy: It's the capital city!

Dad: Well, there are no mines in London.

Billy: Jesus Christ, is that all you think about?

Billy: I think I'm scared, Dad.

Dad: That's okay, son. We're all scared.

Billy: Well... if I don't like it, can I still come back?
