In Billy Elliot musical, how come they chose dark skinned kid to play Billy? The original Billy is white.?

Is this for political correctness? I just don't get it. In Billy Elliot musical, how come they chose dark skinned kid to play Billy? The original Billy is white.?
maybe its not political, maybe he was just the best choice to play that role.. kinda like how daniel criag is nothing like the past bonds but is still a good bond, they're probably trying something different
He was probably the best kid for the job.

Broadway is becoming very diverse.

Look at the Les Miserables revival and The Little Mermaid casts. In Billy Elliot musical, how come they chose dark skinned kid to play Billy? The original Billy is white.?
Because he is probably the best at acting sing dancing and putting ont that cute little accent. Sometimes people choose their cast because of their personalities as well. Maybe he acted like a Billy...
It's called "colourblind" casting - they cast the best person for the role, regardless of race or skin colour. I think the London production of Billy Elliot was the first to colourblind cast kids.
