I'm going to see Billy Elliot on Broadway in NYC next Monday. I got tickets for the Front Mezzanine instead of orchestra. Was this a good decision?? I was afraid of getting orchestra and being in the very back. Will I be able to see very well from the Front Mezzanine?Going to see Billy Elliot is the Front Mezzanine a good seat?
Excellent seats indeed. When I first saw BE in January, I sat in the front mez and it was absolutely the best area of the theater to watch the show. Due to the staging, especially all of the dance numbers, you get the best of both worlds from this perspective, very close to the stage (I believe I was sitting above orchestra row J which is equivalent to 10 rows back) and from above you get great depth perspective of every actor and dancer, whereas in the orchestra, you are looking up at the stage, losing much of that staging perspective and at times losing sight of even central characters in some dance numbers (like Shine, Solidarity and Angry Dance, to name a few).
I have since seen the show from the left orchestra section, which I recall were wonderful seats in the same theater for Les Miserables, but were not as good as the front mez seats for Billy Elliot.
If you had not purchased your seats and wanted to know the best section to watch the show, I would have recommended the front mezzanine.
Enjoy the show! I saw Kowalik and Bologna in January and then saw Pflueger and Keean Johnson in June in the roles of Billy and Michael. They were all outstanding.
